Papers, 1786-1974 (bulk 1900-1945).

The collection, compiled primarily by Louise Este (Fisher) Bruce of Baltimore and Ruxton, Md., contains her own correspondence, 1900-1945, which reflects interests in genealogy and civic and religious charitable work. Also included are more than one hundred letters from Bruce's son, David Kirkpatrick Este Bruce, written to his mother while he was serving abroad in the U.S. Army during World War I and letters from his daughter, Audrey (Bruce) Currier, to her grandmother. Seven scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings, photographs, and other momentos celebrate the lives and achievements of Bruce's husband, U.S. Senator William Cabell Bruce; her father, jurist William Alexander Fisher; and her son, David, lawyer, writer, politician, and diplomat. Also included in the collection are business and political correspondence, 1808-1876, of Bruce's grandfather, David Kirkpatrick Este of Cincinnati, Ohio; papers, 1799-1839, of William Miller of Rapides Parish, La., and Lexington, Ky.; business correspondence, 1885-1941, of William A. Fisher; and a small amount of business correspondence, 1885-1941, of William Cabell Bruce. Papers illuminate national and international contexts in which family members lived and worked.
